The number of foreign doctors in France

In France, there are 40,354 doctors born outside the national borders who regularly exercise the profession. An increase of 10.4% from 2007 to 2014 that continues to grow, according to  the 2020 projections. They come from a EU country in 25% of cases. Mostly women (55%)  from Romania, Germany and Belgium, but also Italy and Spain. While the non-french doctors coming from a country outside the EU represent 75%.

They are mainly men (69%), from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Vietnam and Madagascar. That’s the identikit of immigrants doctors working in France released by the National Council of the Order of Physicians.

Reading the report there are clear trends regarding foreign doctors. Their migartion is strongly based on language factors. It seems in those countries where french is taught as second language as foreign language, there is great tendency to migrate to France.

The other tendency that shapes up is that the number of foreign doctors in the french syste,m is in permanent rise since 2007 and has been risen by 5000 since then.
