The use of antibiotics is more widespread in Cyprus

The use of antibiotics is more widespread in Cyprus than in other European countries, with the exception of Malta which takes first place, according to a European Commission survey, published on Friday.
The survey reveals a drop in antibiotic use in humans since 2009 and a growing public awareness that antibiotics do not kill viruses.
The results show a modest positive change in attitudes since the first survey in 2009: 35% of respondents say they have taken antibiotics in the past year, which represents a 5% drop since the 2009 survey.  Two percent less people took antibiotics against the flu in 2013 (18% vs 20%), and more people are aware that antibiotics do not kill viruses than in 2009 (40% vs 36%) reports Cyprus News Agency.
