Protesting GPs open clinics to patients
General practitioners from Zielona Gora Agreement (PZ) trade union closed their clinics Jan. 1 to thousands of patients in northern and eastern Poland as they reached agreement with Health Minister over new cancer treatment procedures.
PZ members refused to sign contracts with the National Health Fund NFZ for 2015 due to what they consider insufficient funding, especially in view of scrapping limits for the number of oncological patients who can be treated each year.
Arlukowicz said the PZ had demanded PLN 2 billion more for primary care while NFZ has earmarked PLN 1.1 billion for this purpose.
After concluding lengthy negotiations health minister claimed victory saying that he did not have to give in to doctors to a large extent as he eventually did not offer them more money than he had previously declared.
Polish physicians need to sign contracts for public healthcare with NFZ every year and forecast the number of patients and the budget they need to cover their duties.
