Is a healthy stag weekend possible?

Although it may be tradition for stags to go out in the evening, wolf down a curry, get smashed, grab a kebab and sleep until noon – But the lifestyle isn’t for everyone!

Whether they’re training for a sport event, or simply looking for a beach body, it’s genuinely surprising how many people this year have asked for a  “Healthy Stag Weekend”.

With a little help from Personal Trainer, Mike Glover, here’s our guide to making sure you can have the healthiest stag weekend going!

In The Day

We’ve been in the stag weekend game for over 15 years! So as you can imagine, we have a huge buffet of activity options to choose from! Not every party has to be spent sat in the pub – So here’s a list of our Top Five calorie burning stag options:

PAINTBALL1. Paintball, Airsoft and Speedball – When it comes to classic stag activities, paintball is always on the top of our list. Not only is shooting your mate fun, it’s a great way to sweat out last  nights beers! Even in our most basic shooting activities, you and the lads will still be running around a forest, with a 5lb gun in your hand – It will take it’s toll! With the adrenaline kicking in and increasing your heart rate, paintball, airsoft and speedballs are all fantastic ways to stay active.

In The Night

When it comes to health and fitness, most of us already know what not to eat! Don’t go for a curry, don’t buy any crisps in the pub, don’t buy a cheeky kebab – Yada yada yada! If you’re old enough to go on a stag do, we’re pretty sure you know what to eat!

But it’s not always about the burgers and ‘babs on a stag do; it’s what you’re drinking that’s important! Having a few too many beers or breezers can be an undercover pot-hole in any stag’s diet. Booze is just empty calories, which will take a LOT of dancing to burn.

Instead of telling you not to drink, personal trainer, Mike Glover suggests this advice:

“Obviously, no alcohol is best. But I would say tequila is the best option [if you’re going to be drinking]. A good tequila tends to be clean and contain fewer additives.

Avoid your high sugar mixers like coke. Diet versions will contain artificial sugar and therefore send signals to your body that it is about to receive nutrients, so stay away from these too.

Prepare with a meal high in protein to give yourself a good base to build from. If you can, top up with the protein through the night too – a chicken kebab is the lesser of many evils when it comes to takeaway food.”

So if you’re after a crazy night out, here are Maximise’s top three drinks:Flickrim.no_.hero_

      • Tequila – Or if you’re not a shot person, why not try a tequila-sunrise?
      • Vodka, Soda and Lime – Maybe not the manliest drink in the bars, but a few of these together are better for you than a beer
      • Bloody Mary – Yet again, this might not be Major Manliness, but this delicious vodka based booze is a top choice for your stag do!

But, at the end of the day, it’s your choice. It’s your stag do! Kebabs, curries and crates of Carlsberg are a tradition on a party weekend – Just make sure you’re having a great time.
