First Complete Works of Hippocrates Sold for 25,960 Euros

The first printed edition of, the father of Western Medicine–Hippocrates–complete works was sold for 25,960 Euros by Vergos Auctions.

The first printed editions of Hippocrates’ complete works were published in 1526 from the famous Venetian Printing House Aldi. The book had the special feature that it was tied in France, in the early 20th century, with snake-skin. This reminds us of the symbol of Medicine–the Rod of Asclepius.

Furthermore, the letters of Nikolaos Gyzis were also sold in the same auction and for the same price. The letters were written during the period of 1876-1900. Among the letters were also the last two letters that the great painter wrote on the 12th and 15th of December, 1900.
