Dexcom SHARE Helps Caretakers Watch Relatives’ Glucose Levels (VIDEO)
While diabetics usually take their own blood glucose readings, they are not the only ones to worry about the results. Parents of diabetic kids and adult children of diabetic parents often want to keep an eye on their relatives without having to bother them every time a reading is taken.Dexcom received FDA approval to introduce its SHARE device that connects with the Dexcom G4 PLATINUM Continuous Glucose Monitor and uploads the data for easy sharing with a select group of people. Folks wishing to check the latest readings of their family members can simply launch an iOS companion app that will display and chart recent glucose levels. Additionally, the app will trigger an alarm when readings are outside predetermined safe levels.
The device communicates with the patients iPhone or iPod touch via Bluetooth to upload the readings, which the app then uploads to a data server for caretakers to download as necessary. The SHARE also works as a battery charger to power up the Dexcom G4 PLATINUM and requires to be plugged into an outlet to pass data and power the receiver.
