The app to help children facing bone marrow transplant
A Spanish app has been developed for children over three years of age who have to have a bone marrow transplant. The free app uses play and child-appropriate language to explain the whole process of the operation they will undergo. It prepares them for the hospital environment as well as reduces their anxiety and fear so that they are even be able to tell their class mates. The tool was developed from an idea from the University Hospital Niño Jesús in Madrid, in collaboration with the AtresMedia Foundation.
The developers are convinced that knowledge is essential to overcoming the disease, as much for young patients as for their parents. The support also helps family members who, after the initial emotional shock, will have access to useful information to tackle the road ahead, enabling them to have confidence in the medical team that will take care of their child.
