First online clinic opens in Romania

The first online clinic has been launched in Romania that allows patients to consult a doctor for minor emergencies – as well as getting analysis results, deciding treatment plans or requesting medical certificates – via instant messaging and video calls. The project, which is supported by a British team, is a quick alternative to the traditional doctor’s appointment. The website allows users to seek assistance at any time from 150 specialist health professionals in 30 different areas, including allergies, infectious diseases, cardiology, diabetes, nutrition and gastroenterology.

Patients just have to create an account, choose what type of support they need and then, using an icon, choose from a list of available doctors. The service isn’t free though and users are expected to pay an annual subscription of 190 Romanian lei (€43) and an additional 50 lei (€11) for each consultation. According to the website’s promoters, these prices are preferable to the usual doctor’s appointments
