Italian nurse chops off baby’s finger by mistake

Alessandria, Italy – A neonatal nurse chopped off a piece of a newborn girl’s finger while cutting gauze around an IV drip on the baby’s hand, sources said previus week.

Doctors at Alessandria’s Civile Hospital tried unsuccessfully to reattach the digit which was cut off below the first knuckle. The incident took place last Saturday, two days after the baby was born on May 26.
