Irish baby boom sees more than 13,000 extra bubs born each year
The economy is on the up and so too are the number of births and marriages, according to latest figures.
The Annual Report of the Registrar General shows the growth in the number of births registered annually over the past decade and a half has been substantial; increasing from 54,239 in 2000 to 67,750 in 2014, or 25 per cent.
The figures released account for a rise of 25 per cent. And while the figures recorded in 2014 was high, 2008 was the peak year; with a staggering 76,015 births recorded.
As the baby boom returns, a list of the most popular baby names for the first half of this year was released this week by nameberry.com.
Top of the list for girls is Charlotte with Atticus making the top number one boys name so far this year.
The report, which was published by the Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton, also shows a slight increase in the number of people getting married.
