Dramatic rise in assisted suicides in Switzerland
More and more people in Switzerland decide for the assisted suicides in order to put an end to their suffering. The Swiss right-to-die organization Exit says it helped 583 people to die in Switzerland in 2014, 124 more than the previous year. That means an increase of nearly 20% in just one year.
The Zurich-based non-profit group, which helps arrange physician-assisted suicides, said on its annual report that the average age of the people who decide for the assisted suicides was 77.5 years. Mainly people in the final stages of cancer or suffering from chronic pain disorders.
