“The hero it’s you”, the videogame for children fearing the operating table
The hero it’s you (“Le Héros, c’est toi”) is the first interactive game for hospitalized children.
Born from an idea of the French association of nurses and doctors Les p’tits doudous, the videogame, available on tablets, is an expedient to help little patients overcome anguish and fears tied to surgery. How does it work? Little patients become the protagonists of the adventure, represented by avatars having their own face. They back and fill through wards, beds and operating theatres helped by doctors, nurses and parents, themselves too represented by personalized characters. Among bonuses, items to find again and treasure hunts, children have to complete the story reaching the final step of intensive care from their hospital room. The idea seems to have obtained good results, as proven by a pilot experiment at a hospital in Rennes.
